Holistic Health | Education | Sustainability

About

We are Eco Mama’s Global Community Gardens. A not for profit organization. Our focus is education. Our goal is empowerment. Our vision is sustainability.

EMG is a conscious, grassroots organization based in British Columbia, Canada. We have a strong vision to build Eco-communities in developing countries all over the world; with our initial projects being focused in Kenya, Uganda and neighbouring countries in East Africa.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of living for youth, women and families in poor rural areas through education involving environmental sustainability, permaculture, holistic nutrition herbal medicine and healthy food preparation.

Our goal is to focus on getting people and resources in collaboration, to build eco-communities in the right places, NOW.

Challenges in this region to consider are: water scarcity, food security, hunger, poverty, pollution, poor family planning, high infant mortality rate, (preventable) diseases and illiteracy.

Key benefits for East African Eco-Communities: increased environmental consciousness, clean water, decrease global warming, sustainable food production, sustainable work created, reduces foreign aid required, decrease domestic violence/ alcoholism, empowerment, community equality, respect, education, health and wellness.

What is an Eco-Community

and why would a community be open to having one?

An Eco-Community is an outdoor learning centre; for growing food, running workshops, and hosting underprivileged children and families. Agroforestry, organic agriculture, clean water/ environmental education, family planning, health and nutrition classes, sustainable enterprise, holistic food preparation, natural childbirth planning and yoga classes are some of the things you may see us doing there. Education in sustainability practices and organic agriculture is our focus, with deep respect of indigenous cultures and customs. Individuals and families may choose to make diet and lifestyle changes that benefit the earth and their bodies, inviting the rest of the community to move towards a greater state of health and wellbeing. Economic sustainability can occur from consumption and sale of organic products, which may result in less reliance on hospital and pharmaceutical interventions. Community Garden members report being happier, healthier, and have more hope toward economic and environmental sustainability.
